The new space aims to encourage people to try out bouldering which doesn’t require harnesses, and spend more time doing physical activity outdoors.
The climbing grips on the wall are in set in varying levels of difficulty, with the goal being to traverse the wall using just one colour route. This will ensures the wall caters for the advanced climbing community in Melbourne’s inner west, as well as encouraging beginners to try it out.
Backing onto the rapidly developing Joseph Road Precinct, the recreational plaza came about following extensive community consultation which formed part of the Footscray River Edge Masterplan 2014. Improving the quality of the under the bridge along the river trail was identified as an action in the Masterplan aiming to activate the space, making it a safe and vibrant hub.
A word from the Mayor, Cr Martin Zakharov:
“The new recreational plaza will be made a staple this summer for people of all ages utilising the Maribyrnong River Trail.
“This project is a great example of how the community can have an impact on the planning of our diverse City.”
