Connecting communities with National Volunteer Week
Published on 19 May 2025
Council is marking National Volunteer Week, 19-25 May 2025, by highlighting the power of volunteering to bring people together and contribute to making Maribyrnong the inclusive and vibrant place it is renowned for.
City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari said volunteering ensures active participation in community life – contributing to the rich tapestry that connects Maribyrnong’s diverse population.
“Our volunteers generously contribute over 5,500 hours, supporting 35 Council programs that help our community thrive and foster meaningful connections – not to mention the countless hours volunteers dedicate to supporting community and not-for-profit organisations across the City,” said Mayor Tiwari.
In the last financial year (2023/24), over 1,700 community members contributed their time to Council programs including Positive Steps walking group, martial arts classes, Family Inclusive Language and Learning Support (FILLS) Program, home library delivery and environment programs.
“Every day, people in our community are participating in big and small ways to make a difference,” said Mayor Cr Tiwari.
“Let’s acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building thriving and inclusive communities,” he said. “For those not already involved, take this as your sign to take up the opportunity to build more connection within your community.”
