Council is taking further steps to enhance and conserve the City of Maribyrnong’s biodiversity for generations to come, with the creation of a draft Nature Plan.

Feedback from almost 400 community members, along with research and technical information, has helped inform the draft Nature Plan, which aims to guide Council land management decisions towards positive outcomes for indigenous plants and wildlife across the City.

Implemented through the proposed delivery of three separate three-year actions plans, the draft Nature Plan’s guiding principles aim to:

  • conserve, manage and restore biodiversity
  • increase connection and engagement with nature
  • collaborate with Traditional Owners and other relevant authorities
  • embed conservation and restoration of nature into Council practices and decisions.

Council is now sharing the draft Nature Plan and the first three-year Action Plan for community feedback. We have also prepared an Easy Read document and a complementary online page to make it easier for our community to engage with the content.

You can share your feedback with us at an upcoming in-person events:

  • Civic Precinct and Community Hub, 61 Napier Street Footscray, Thursday 28 August, 12.30-2.30pm
  • Slow Food Edgewater Farmers’ Market, Saturday 6 September, 9am-1pm
  • Clarke Street Park, Saturday 13 September, 10am-12pm

You can also be part of the conversation and find more information online at yourcityyourvoice.com.au/nature-plan

We will use your feedback to finalise the Nature Plan before it is presented to Council for consideration later this year.

Feedback closes midnight Sunday 14 September 2025.
