Reconstructing Hansen Reserve Soccer Fields

Work begins later this month on the reconstruction of the two soccer fields located at the north-eastern corner of Hansen Reserve.

The improvements will support year-round access for various activities, including soccer, cricket, football, and general public use.

Upgrades include releveling of the surface, upgrading irrigation systems, installing new subsurface drainage, laying new turf, provision of portable soccer goals, and a synthetic cricket wicket.

Maribyrnong City Council Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam said the reconstruction reflects Council’s commitment to providing top-tier recreational facilities for our community.

"These upgrades will not only improve the quality of playing surfaces, increasing capacity for the growing local soccer community, but also enhance the overall experience for residents engaging in recreational activities within the Reserve" said Mayor Lam.

To facilitate works, the two soccer pitches will be closed from late-April 2024, until approximately March 2025, to allow sufficient time for the new turf to establish.

In the interests of public safety, temporary fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the pitches. Crews will be onsite between 7am-5pm Monday to Friday.

Barlow Oval (south-eastern oval) and Walker Oval (north-western oval) within Hansen Reserve will remain open for community access.

The Footscray Rangers have been relocated to Robert Barrett Reserve for the duration of the works.
