Road Management Plan updated to help maintain local roads
Published on 20 August 2025
To ensure the continued safety of all road users, Council has updated the Road Management Plan to help manage road reserve assets within the municipality. This includes service levels, road and kerb maintenance and updates to a public road register.
As Council’s current Road Management Plan comes to the end of its four-year lifespan, a new Plan has been drafted to help Council manage approximately 308 kilometres of roads, 583 kilometres of footpaths, 78 kilometres of bike lanes and shared paths and 40 kilometres of laneways.
The draft Road Management Plan 2025, which is now being shared with the community for comment, includes some key changes to better align Council’s service levels with advice from the Municipal Association of Victoria. This includes:
- improved standards for determining the point of Council intervention
- extended timeframes for Council intervention where needed
- the introduction of standard service levels for night safety inspections
The draft Road Management Plan 2025, along with your comments, will be shared with Council for consideration in October 2025.
While the Road Management Plan shapes how Council maintains these local roads, footpaths, and related infrastructure, it does not extend to broader transport planning. However, Council will also be seeking feedback on public transport, cycling networks, traffic congestion, and long-term transport improvements as part of the Integrated Transport Strategy later in 2025.
