Upgraded playgrounds at Kingsville and Maribyrnong Kindergarten
Published on 03 December 2020
Kingsville and Maribyrnong Kindergarten, two much-loved kindergartens in the west, have recently received outdoor playground upgrades, enhancing the learning experience and sensory development of local children.
The outdoor playground at Kingsville Kindergarten has been redesigned to allow for increased accessibility and inclusion to all areas of the yard for young children of all abilities. It provides a rich, natural environment with a range of small and large spaces, level changes, sensory elements and creative zones to encourage play and creativity among our youngest residents.
Key features of the outdoor playground at Kingsville Kindergarten include a pergola, an accessible sandpit and swings, arbours, veggie gardens, native plantings, a spiral maze, a digging patch, play panels and build-your-own cubby frame.
Kingsville Kindergarten is co-located with a Maternal and Child Health centre that offers consultations, support and parent education for families of preschool aged children in the community.
Maribyrnong Kindergarten has also welcomed upgrades to their outdoor play area, with a new sandpit, pergola and deck for open ended play experiences and social interactions for children of all abilities.
Maribyrnong Kindergarten provides a play-based, child-centred curriculum for three and four year old children. They are also the first sessional kindergarten in the north-west region to offer Bush Kindergarten, a program which provides children the opportunity to explore nature in local outdoor spaces.
Both kindergarten playground upgrades were supported by the Victorian Government.

Message from the Mayor, Cr Michael Clarke
Ensuring children in our community have access to facilities and infrastructure that are safe and functional, and help enhance their learning and development is crucial for their growth. These upgraded outdoor playground facilities are sure to be enjoyed by the smallest members of our community, and will continue to cater to the needs of our growing community for years to come.
