Council is inviting library lovers and residents to help write the next chapter for the Yarraville Library so it can continue to support the community in the future.

With the smallest footprint in the Maribyrnong Library Service, Yarraville Library – located on Wembley Street – has almost 3,000 registered library members.

Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam said with more than sixty years history at the current location, as the Yarraville community grows, Council wants the library to grow with it.

“The question is how we make that happen with a 34 percent increase in population to 21,688 residents forecast by 2051,” Mayor Lam said.

“While the intimate nature of the current library is one of the things we know users love,” she added, “the footprint of the building is also problematic in terms of service delivery and accessibility.

“We’re looking to library users and potential members to help us understand the things that are important to them and what they would like from their library going forward to inform our future thinking.”

Residents can share their vision for a future library directly with library staff, in person at the Yarraville market, or by completing a short survey either in person or online at yourcityyourvoice.com.au/yarraville-library

Feedback closes midnight Friday 15 December 2023.
