Hard rubbish collections
Council offers one free hard rubbish collection per eligible household each calendar year. Hard rubbish collections are for items that are at the end of their lives and cannot be donated. If you have items that others can still use, please consider alternatives such as repair or donation.
Council also holds free hard rubbish drop-off days. Details will be on Council's event page one month prior to event.

Where should I leave my hard rubbish?
Your hard rubbish must be in one location within your property (i.e. front yard or driveway), as close to the front property boundary as possible.
Please do not place your items on your veranda and ensure your animals are secure on the day of your collection. Ensure that your hard rubbish and green waste are clearly separated from other items that are not intended to be removed. Council and its service providers will not be held liable if you do not separate wanted items, and they are accidentally collected.
How much material can I have collected?
Each booked collection can include:
Option a) 2 cubic metres of hard waste (2 metres long x 1 metre wide x 1 metre high).
Option b) 4 cubic metres of green waste items bundled and tied (4 metres long x 1 metre wide x 1 metre high). Branches are no more than 1.5 m long and bundled to 30 cm in diameter. You must bundle and tie your green waste.
Option c) 2 mattresses or 2 bed bases or 1 mattress and 1 base.
If the amount of hard rubbish is greater than the allowable amount, Council will not collect the excess. Additional hard rubbish collections can be arranged for a fee of $104.70. If you would like to book an additional hard rubbish collection, please contact Council on 9688 0200.
I'm in an Multi-unit dwelling, can I have a collection?
This depends on the size and space available on your property. A number of developments have adequate space for hard waste collections and receive a Council collection. Your building caretaker or Owners Corporation will confirm the collection point. Spaces must be managed in a compliant, safe and clean manner.
Other developments organise their own hard rubbish collection via a private company. This is organised on your behalf by the Owners Corporation or the building manager.
If your building receives a Council waste service but does not have adequate space for a hard waste collection, contact wasteresponse@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au Council has an alternative service available for eligible residents.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel or alter your booking, you must do so by 2pm on the Friday prior to your scheduled collection. Failure to do this will forfeit your free collection.
What if I have large items?
Please notify Council of large items to be collected, such as fridges. Our collectors will not take any additional items that we have not been informed of in your request for a hard rubbish collection.
