Council, through partnership funding from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund, will soon be commencing the construction of new cricket practice nets within the Hanmer Reserve Precinct to support the tenant sports clubs in modernising their practice facilities.
Construction works will take place behind the existing pavilion at Hanmer Reserve, Yarraville, commencing March 2025.
The works have been funded through a $400,000 partnership with the Victorian Government through the West Gate Tunnel Project’s West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.
The works include:
These works will provide a modern and compliant four lane cricket practice net facility for the local sporting clubs, replacing the outdated nets located on Hanmer Oval. These works will occur at the same time that Cowper Street is being developed and the West Gate Tunnel Project’s Harris Street walking and cycling paths are being constructed.
See here for Cowper Street project updates.
Works are scheduled to commence March 2025 and will take 10 - 12 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions. Completion is anticipated by mid-2025.
Construction crews will be on site Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.
There will be some machinery, work vehicles and small delivery trucks accessing the Reserve.
While the Playing Reserve and existing cricket nets will remain open for the duration of the works, the adjacent car spaces will be closed while the Cowper Street project is ongoing.
There will be some noise from the site, but all efforts will be made to keep this to a minimum wherever possible.
The construction of the Hanmer Reserve Cricket Nets will run concurrently with the delivery of the Cowper Street project delivery.
Yes. The Reserve will remain open for the durations of the works, with only the proposed cricket practice nets area and adjacent car spaces being closed to ensure the safety of all Reserve users.
