Clean-up and volunteer efforts continue post flood

The clean-up in the flood affected areas of Maribyrnong continued today, with hard waste collections resuming this morning.
Our cleansing team have also cleared all of the bike paths throughout the area of mud and debris and pressure washed them, and warning signs have been removed – this includes the paths along the Maribyrnong River Trail which are now open for pedestrian and bike access.
Roads and footpaths have continued to be cleared of silt to support safe access to properties for residents, and trucks and bobcats that are working their way through the impacted streets to collect waste. Street sweeping will also continue regularly to keep impacted streets clean.
Over the weekend the Raleigh Road Activity Centre operated as a hub for Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) who have been managing registrations for volunteers to assist with the clean-up of flood affected properties.

For flood affected residents looking for volunteer support, please register what assistance you need with Council staff at the Relief Centre at 9 Randall Street, Maribyrnong.
Free counselling support is available for impacted residents via Western Health in-person at the Relief Centre from 9am, Monday 24 October.
The alert for the Maribyrnong River remains as 'stay informed' (as at 2:35pm, Sunday 23 October) and residents are urged to stay alert, but not alarmed. The State Emergency Service has advised there may be some flooding in the area over the coming days, but not of the magnitude of last week at this stage.
Disaster Relief Australia is a nationwide organisation that provides disaster response to those affected by natural disasters both domestically and internationally. They pair the skills and experiences of keen volunteers, military veterans and emergency responders to provide on the ground support to those impacted by natural disaster. They were launched in 2016 and have since supported 20 disaster relief operations, helping thousands of disaster survivors.
The Relief Centre at the Maribyrnong Community Centre is open between 9:00am and 5:00pm to provide ongoing assistance to residents.
Flood impacted residents can also email floodrecovery@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au with specific requests or concerns. This inbox is monitored weekdays 9am-5pm.
