Applications are now open for Council’s Community Grants program, aimed at empowering local groups and organisations to make a positive difference in their neighbourhoods.

The program focus is on creating opportunities to increase participation in and connection to community.

There are three categories of funding, catering to projects of varying scales. Small grants of up to $1,000, medium grants up to $15,000, and for larger-scale initiatives, the program offers grants of up to $25,000.

By supporting local initiatives, City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam said the program aims to foster a sense of community engagement and collaboration.

"It is a testament to our commitment to empowering our residents and fostering a strong sense of community. We believe that by providing funding opportunities, we can enable local groups and organisations to implement projects that will have a lasting positive impact in our City," she said.

Council recognises the importance of community-led initiatives in driving positive change. By offering financial support, the Community Grants program aims to facilitate projects that address key community needs and aspirations to help create a vibrant and inclusive community for all residents of Maribyrnong.

Recipients will be announced in December, following an evaluation process. Applications will be assessed based on their alignment with the program's objectives, feasibility, and potential impact on the community.

Before submitting an application, we invite groups and organisations to review the Community Grants Program guidelines and liaise with Council's Community Grants Officer regarding their proposed project.

To further assist applicants, Council will again be hosting grant writing workshops and information sessions. Registrations are essential via www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/communitygrants

An Independent Review Panel has been established to review grant applications and provide recommendations to Council.

Applications close 4pm, Thursday 22 August 2024.
