Plastic Free July for Schools

Many schools already take measures to reduce single-use plastics, such as 'nude food day' or 'trash-free Tuesday'. And there is always more that can be done to educate and inspire!

Plastic Free July is a great program to adopt at your school, youth program or after school care. The program is flexible to adapt to your context and scale of engagement. So don’t be deterred if school holidays are in the middle and you can only participate for a week, or you can only get a year level or class group involved, not the whole school. Everyone’s small steps can make a big difference!

Ready to take the challenge?

Head to the Plastic Free Foundations school specific webpage below for links to resources to help you on your journey. Whether you need to conduct a waste audit to find out which plastic item to target, inspiration for where to start, need promotional resources or lesson plans to support your students, the Plastic Free Foundation is a great start.

Be sure to register your school and take the challenge so we can track and celebrate everyone’s collective efforts. Check up on the events too as the webinars are full of great ideas that can be used in schools too.

Take the challenge at your school

Help promote to your school community

Putting posters up and sharing information in newsletters encouraging your school community to take the challenge is useful too. Remember to celebrate the good news stories your students might share with you about what they are doing at home too.
